Do you want to sing early music?

One of the country's leading performers and teachers in the field of Renaissance and Baroque music just happens to live in Beccles. Philip Thorby is unequalled as a performer on both viol and recorder, but he is also a magnificent singing tutor and director. He is well known as founder and Director of the Renaissance ensemble Musica Antiqua of London, which has remained at the forefront of research-based performance of early sixteenth-century music and he is in demand all over the country and abroad as tutor in vocal and instrumental workshops.

Philip runs a small vocal group ‘Capella Antiqua’ who meet every Monday evening in Beccles to work on music that is rarely in the repertoire of your average choral society. Concerts are usually held a couple of times a year in the magnificent Blythburgh Church. The group currently has just 12 members but Philip would be interested in expanding membership to increase the flexibility of what can be tackled from the immensely rich repertoire of early music.

Applications would therefore be considered from all voices. In such a small and specialist group it is important that correct voice quality and balance is achieved. Therefore Philip requires interested applicants to undergo a short audition. For more information please contact Linda Gower on 01379 668040 or linda.gower <AT> tiscali.co.uk
